Leadership Team

Dana Gresham

Dana Gresham, Principal
Dr. Gresham is a proud graduate of James Madison University where she earned an undergraduate degree in special education. Upon graduation, she taught at Oakland School for several years before enrolling at The College of William and Mary where she earned her M.Ed., Ed.S., and Ed.D. She taught special education in Henrico County and also served at the division level as a consultative teacher for special education. Dr. Gresham is beginning her 24th year in Hanover County, where she has served as assistant principal at Atlee High School, principal of Rural Point Elementary, and principal of Hanover High School. In addition to her work with Online School, Dr. Gresham serves as the director of Professional Learning, Leadership, and Federal Programs. She is also an adjunct professor for James Madison University. Dr. Gresham has been married for 27 years to the best husband in the world, and she is Mom to two great kids—both of whom are/were HCPS students, and one of whom is currently an HCPS teacher. For relaxation, Dr. Gresham enjoys camping, horseback riding, and spending as much time as possible on the water.

Erin Sturgis

Erin Sturgis, Assistant Principal, K–12
Mrs. Sturgis received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. She taught special education at the elementary, middle, and high school levels prior to serving as senior teacher and assistant principal at Liberty Middle School. She is currently a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership program at VCU. Mrs. Sturgis enjoys spending time hiking, camping, and kayaking with her husband and daughter. When not at school or camping, Mrs. Sturgis and her daughter love reading a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books.

Heather Causey

Heather Causey, ITRT  Online Learning Developer
Heather Causey received her master’s degree in instructional technology from Virginia Commonwealth University and administration and online learning certifications from the University of Richmond. She has worked for Hanover Schools since 1990 as a middle school teacher, ITRT at all levels, and most recently as the online learning developer. She loves people, green spaces, blue spaces, and cleverness.

Mary Townes

Mary Townes
Mrs. Townes earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Virginia State University. She returned to Virginia State University to earn a master’s of education degree in administration and supervision K–12. During her 10 years in the classroom, Mrs. Townes taught kindergarten, first, second, third, and fifth grades. She served as assistant principal for six years and principal for six years in the Richmond City Public Schools before coming to Hanover County Schools. Mrs. Townes has served as assistant principal at Henry Clay Elementary School for the past two years. She prides herself in professional and personal growth while inspiring others to be their very best.  

Chris Leggett

Chris Leggett 
Mr. Leggett is coming from Henrico County Public Schools to join the Hanover Online School team. His last eight years in Henrico were spent as an exceptional education teacher, critical response teacher, and department chair. He has taught special education for a total of 20 years. He has also coached varsity wrestling and cross country. He earned a bachelor’s degree (special education/elementary education) and master’s degree (administration and supervision k–12) from the California University of Pennsylvania. Originally, from the Pittsburgh area, he moved to Virginia in 2001. He, his wife, and two children live in the Mechanicsville area. In his spare time, Mr. Leggett enjoys running, traveling with his family, and attending his children’s sporting events.
